Steve in the Cab of NYSW's GP18 #1802 (Photos taken in 1969 when Steve was 4 years old) This GP-18 was one of three engines built in 1962 (#1800, #1802, and #1804) that would travel through our little town in northern New Jersey. There are about 25 miles of track in the small town I grew up in. (Click on Image to Enlarge) From a small yard at the north end of the town the tracks travel through the residential areas, right through the center of downtown, and out to several large rail road bridges over the Passaic river at the south end of town. (Click on Image to Enlarge) My grandfather was friends with the engineer and was able to get me a ride in that monster GP-18 when I was very young. It was over 30 years ago but I can still remember that day like it was just yesterday. (Click on Image to Enlarge) After we rumbled through downtown my Grandfather meet us at the south end of town to take me off the train. What a way to spend a summer afternoon.
