There are many different versions of the Alco 430, a Super SD-40, a few different F7 models, and the 4-6-0 steam engine that I know were produced from 1974 to 1977. I have to thank H. Scott Bell for his help with this. He has provided me with a great deal of the specific details and information about these different version of the 430's.
The original Alco engine went through many different version during it brief life span. There was a prototype made in 1974 that I do not believe was ever sold to the public. I have heard stories about employee's getting these engines and some have turned up on the secondary market 25 years later. I have been lucky enough to find two of these Ultra Rare engines in fair condition.
The first production model Version #1 was introduced in 1975 and was usually sold as part of a freight train set. The second model Version #2 was introduced in late 1975 and was also usually sold as part of a freight train set. The third model Version #3 was introduced in 1976. It was usually sold as individual pieces and not in sets. The fourth model Version #4 was introduced in 1976 as well. It was usually sold as an individual piece and not part of a train set. The fifth model Version #5 was introduced at the end of 1976 and into 1977 this was sold as an individual piece or as part of the freight set. The sixth model Version #6 was the last produced.
The F7 also had a few different versions but there were not as many.
